What it argues
A standard first textbook in aeronautical engineering that mixes history with fundamentals. It covers the atmosphere, basic aerodynamics, airfoils and wings, and propulsion. Its chapter on airplane performance, used in the course, develops the drag polar, thrust and power required and available, maximum speed, climb, ceiling, range and endurance from a simple balance of forces. It shows how much of an aircraft’s performance follows from a few parameters.
