What it argues

Edmondson argues that much important work is now done by people who come together briefly across boundaries, so stable teams are the exception. She calls the skill that makes this work “teaming”: a dynamic activity, not a fixed structure. Drawing on cases such as a mine rescue that pulled in specialists from many organizations, she describes what it takes: humility about the problem, curiosity about colleagues, and enough psychological safety for people to speak up and learn quickly together.
