What it argues

A widely used thermodynamics textbook. It builds from the first and second laws, properties of substances, control-volume analysis, entropy and exergy, to applications in power and refrigeration cycles. Its chapter on refrigeration and heat pump systems, used in the course, analyzes the vapor-compression cycle component by component. It defines the coefficient of performance and compares it with the Carnot limit, and shows how operating temperatures and component losses affect performance.
